North Branch is a small village located in Lapeer County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of North Branch Township. In 2020, about 1,096 people lived there, making it a close-knit community.

History of North Branch Village
Early Settlement and Founding
The first people began settling in the area of North Branch in 1854. Among the earliest settlers were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beach and Mr. and Mrs. George Simmons. They helped to build the first community here.
The very center of the village started with a post office, a store, and a trading post. These important places were set up by John and Richard Beach. They helped the community grow by providing essential services.
Village Incorporation and Growth
North Branch officially became a village in 1881. This means it was recognized as its own local government. At that time, about 900 people lived in the village.
The village gets its name from the north branch of the Flint River. This river flows through the township and is a main waterway in the area. Huron Street is the main road that runs through the village.
Major Fires in North Branch
North Branch has faced challenges, including two big fires in its history. The Great Michigan Fire in 1871 and the Thumb Fire in 1881 caused a lot of damage. These fires destroyed many parts of the town, but the community worked to rebuild.
