The North Branch River is a small but important river in southeastern New Hampshire, United States. It flows for about 8.2 miles (13.2 kilometers). This river is like a smaller stream that feeds into a bigger one, the Lamprey River.

The Lamprey River then flows into Great Bay. From there, the water eventually reaches the Piscataqua River and finally the Atlantic Ocean. So, the North Branch River is part of a much larger water system!

Journey of the River

The North Branch River starts its journey in a beautiful place. It begins in Bear Brook State Park in the town of Deerfield, New Hampshire.

Where the River Begins

The very start of the river is at the outlet of a pond called Beaver Pond. This pond is located within Bear Brook State Park. The water here is about 484 feet (148 meters) above sea level.

Flowing Through Towns

After leaving Bear Brook State Park, the river flows towards the southeast. It quickly leaves Deerfield and enters the town of Candia.

In Candia, the river passes under New Hampshire Route 43. This is just south of the main village area of Candia. It continues its flow, reaching New Hampshire Route 27 shortly after.

The River's End

Soon after passing under NH 27, the North Branch River enters the town of Raymond. This is where its journey ends. The North Branch River flows into the Lamprey River in Raymond. The elevation at this point is about 202 feet (62 meters) above sea level.

Why Rivers Are Important

Rivers like the North Branch are super important for many reasons. They provide homes for fish and other wildlife. They also help carry water from inland areas out to the ocean.

Rivers are also a source of fresh water for people. They can be used for fun activities too, like kayaking or fishing. Protecting our rivers helps keep our environment healthy.
