North Grove is a small community located in Miami County, Indiana. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a place with a name and people living there, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the U.S. Census Bureau identifies for statistics. North Grove is part of Harrison Township.

A Look Back in Time
North Grove has an interesting history! It was first established in 1854. Back then, it had a different name: "Moorefield." A person named William North helped to create the community.
How North Grove Got Its Name
The name of the community changed to "North Grove" around 1867. This happened when the Pan Handle Railroad arrived. The railroad was a big deal, bringing new connections and growth.
Early Services
A post office opened in North Grove in 1868. This was important for sending and receiving mail. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1934.
Where is North Grove?
North Grove is located in the southeastern part of Miami County. It's easy to find because Indiana State Road 19 runs along its northeast side.
Nearby Towns and Cities
- If you travel northwest on State Road 19, you'll reach Peru. Peru is about 12 miles away. It is also the main town, known as the county seat, for Miami County.
- If you head southeast for about 2.5 miles, you'll arrive in Amboy.
- Another larger city, Kokomo, is about 16 miles southwest of North Grove.
Land and Water
The North Grove area covers about 0.13 square miles. All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the community itself. However, Walnut Creek flows along the eastern edge of North Grove. This creek then flows north into Pipe Creek. Pipe Creek eventually flows northwest and joins the Wabash River near Lewisburg.
