The North Poplar Historic District is a special area in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee. It's like a time capsule filled with old and beautiful buildings. This district was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. This means it's recognized as an important historical place in the United States.

What Makes This District Special?

The North Poplar Historic District has about 60 historic buildings. These buildings were built between the 1870s and the 1940s. They show off some of the best house designs from that time in West Tennessee.

Amazing Architectural Styles

You can see many different building styles here. Each style has its own unique look:

  • Italian Renaissance: Think grand, fancy buildings inspired by old Italian palaces.
  • Bungalow: These are smaller, cozy homes often with a wide front porch.
  • Craftsman: These houses use natural materials like wood and stone. They often have detailed woodwork.
  • Neoclassical: These buildings look like ancient Greek or Roman temples. They often have tall columns.
  • Colonial Revival: This style brings back ideas from early American colonial homes.

Cavitt Place: A Historic Mansion

One of the most interesting buildings in the district is called Cavitt Place. It's a large, two-story mansion built in 1916. It was designed in the Italian Renaissance style.

Today, Cavitt Place is home to the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center. Many of its original features are still there. You can see beautiful painted-glass windows. There's also a fancy marble staircase and marble floors. Look up to see amazing murals on the ceilings and walls. The house also has rich mahogany woodwork.

The Heritage Center Museum

The Paris-Henry County Heritage Center works as a small museum. It has a permanent exhibit that tells the story of Henry County's past. They also have special exhibits that change over time. If you're interested in history, it's a great place to learn and do research.
