The North River is a beautiful river located in Tennessee, a state in the United States. It is a very important stream that flows into the Tellico River. This river begins high up in the Unicoi Mountains, which are part of the larger Appalachian Mountains range. The North River flows through a quiet and scenic part of the Cherokee National Forest, making it a special place for nature lovers and adventurers.

Journey of the North River

The North River starts its journey in the Unicoi Mountains. These mountains are connected to the famous Smoky Mountains further north. The river's entire path is within Monroe County, Tennessee, inside the large and beautiful Cherokee National Forest.

A Scenic Path

The North River flows through a very scenic and isolated area. For most of its length, a road called Forest Road 217 (or North River Road) runs right beside it. This road is managed by the United States Forest Service, which is part of the United States Department of Agriculture. The river generally flows from the east towards the west.

Where it Ends

The North River eventually joins the Tellico River. There is a special campground managed by the Forest Service located close to where the two rivers meet. This spot is upstream from where another major river, the Bald River, also flows into the Tellico River.

Exploring the Area

The area around the North River is perfect for outdoor activities. Since it's located within the Cherokee National Forest, visitors can enjoy hiking, fishing, and camping. The forest is home to many different kinds of plants and animals.

The Cherokee National Forest

The Cherokee National Forest is the largest tract of public land in Tennessee. It covers about 655,598 acres. The forest is managed for multiple uses, including timber production, water quality, wildlife habitat, and recreation. It's a great place to learn about nature and enjoy the outdoors.
