The North River Mills Historic District is a special area in North River Mills, West Virginia. It's like a time capsule, showing what life was like long ago. This district is found in Hampshire County, West Virginia, right where Hiett Run meets the North River. The North River then flows into the Cacapon River.

Once, this area was a busy industrial town. Now, it's mostly visited by people who live there in the summer and by tourists who want to see its history.

When a place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it means it's recognized as a significant part of American history. The North River Mills Historic District was added to this list in 2011.

This district includes 25 "contributing buildings" and five "contributing sites." This means these buildings and sites help tell the story of the area's past.

  • Croston House: This home was built around 1840 and has a barn from about 1910.
  • Miller House: Dating back to around 1790, it also has other small buildings nearby.
  • Kump House: This house was built around 1805.
  • Moreland House: This home was built around 1880.
  • Shanholtz House: Built around 1930, it's also known as the North River Mills Society for Antiquarian Arts and the Diffusion of Knowledge.

Community Buildings

  • North River Mills Grocery: This building was first built around 1810 and then updated around 1920.
  • North River Mills School: This schoolhouse dates back to around 1880.
  • United Methodist Church: This church was built around 1893.

  • The cemetery connected to the Kump House.
  • The Miller Mill Site, from around 1880.
