Northern Lights is a 1997 TV movie that first aired on the Disney Channel. It is based on a stage play from 1988 by John Hoffman. The movie was directed by Linda Yellen and stars famous actors like Diane Keaton, Maury Chaykin, Joseph Cross, and Kathleen York. It premiered on August 23, 1997.
Some people thought Northern Lights was the very first Disney Channel Original Movie. However, Disney Channel later said that Under Wraps, also from 1997, was their first official original movie.
The Story of Northern Lights
The movie tells the story of Roberta (Diane Keaton), a woman who has no children. She finds out her brother, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, has passed away. When she goes back to her hometown for his funeral, Roberta gets a big surprise. She inherits her nine-year-old nephew, Jack (Joseph Cross).
Jack is a smart and curious boy. Roberta and Jack have to learn to live together and understand each other. The movie shows their journey as they try to find common ground and become a family.
