Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra (born November 19, 1961), known as Meg Ryan, is an American actress and director. She became famous in the late 1980s for playing fun and charming women. Ryan is especially known for her roles in romantic comedies. She was a top star in Hollywood during the 1980s and 1990s. People often called her "America's Sweetheart".

Meg Ryan started acting in 1981 in a drama film called Rich and Famous. In 1982, she joined the TV show As the World Turns. She appeared in popular movies like Top Gun (1986) and Promised Land (1987). Her role in the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally... (1989) earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
