Norwegian Resistance facts for kids

During World War II, Norway was taken over by Nazi Germany. The Norwegian Resistance was a group of Norwegians who fought back against this takeover and occupation by the Nazis. This fight lasted from 1940 to 1945.
The Resistance supported the original Norwegian government, which had to form outside of the country. They believed this was the true government of Norway. They also encouraged Norwegians not to follow the new government set up by Vidkun Quisling, who worked with the Nazis.
The Norwegian Resistance helped members of the original Norwegian government escape from Norway. It was a dangerous escape, as the Germans wanted to capture them. Luckily, they reached the coast where a British warship picked them up.
The Resistance also carried out brave actions against the Nazi soldiers. This included sabotage, which means secretly damaging or destroying things. They also attacked German ships with bombs. Besides armed actions, the Norwegian Resistance also did unarmed civil disobedience, like protests, to show they would not give up.
