How Novar Gardens Got Its Name
The suburb was almost named Morphettville at first. However, its name was changed to honour a very important person.
The new name came from the family estate of Ronald Munro Ferguson, 1st Viscount Novar. He was the Governor-General of Australia from 1914 to 1920. A Governor-General is like the King or Queen's representative in a country.
Ronald Munro Ferguson visited the area in 1919. When he returned to Britain, he was given the special title of 1st Viscount Novar. The suburb was then named Novar Gardens to remember him and his family home.
