Nuevitas is an important municipality and port town located in the Camagüey Province of Cuba. Its large bay was first seen by the famous explorer Christopher Columbus way back in 1492.

History of Nuevitas
The city of Nuevitas was first started in 1775. Later, in 1828, it was moved to where it stands today. Before a big change in how towns were organized in 1977, Nuevitas had different neighborhoods called barrios.
Geography and Location
Nuevitas is found on the Guincho peninsula, which is on Cuba's north coast. It shares borders with other towns like Guáimaro and Minas. It also touches parts of Las Tunas Province and Ciego de Ávila Province.
Villages in Nuevitas
The municipality of Nuevitas includes several smaller villages. Some of these are Camalote, Pastelillo, and Playa Santa Lucía. Other villages include San Agustín, San Miguel de Bagá, and Santa Rita.
Importance and Natural Features
Even though Nuevitas is not a huge city, it is very important for Cuba. This is because of its busy commercial and industrial activities. Nuevitas is located southwest of Playa Santa Lucía, which is a popular spot for tourists.
Nearby, to the north, you can find Cayo Sabinal. Other small islands, called cays, in the area are Cayo Guajaba and Cayo Romano. The only water path that separates Santa Lucia from Ensenada Playa Bonita is the Nuevitas canal. This canal connects the Bahia de Nuevitas (Nuevitas Bay) to the Atlantic Ocean.

In 2022, the municipality of Nuevitas had a population of 59,483 people. The total area of the municipality is about 415 square kilometers. This means there are about 140 people living in each square kilometer.
Transportation Hub
Nuevitas is protected by a very large harbor. It also has two smaller ports that help with shipping. It is a main point for sending out Cuban sugar and other products grown in the nearby farming areas.
The town also has different kinds of light industries. It serves as a place where major roads and railways end. The main road that goes through Nuevitas is the state highway called "Circuito Norte" (CN).
Railway Connections
The railway station in Nuevitas is the end point for two train lines. One line comes from Camagüey. The second line travels along the Atlantic Coast from Santa Clara, passing through Morón.
