Nuno Jorge Pereira da Silva Valente (born on September 12, 1974) is a former Portuguese professional footballer. He played as a left-back or a winger. After his playing career, he also became a manager.
Nuno Valente played for several clubs in Portugal and England. These included Sporting, Portimonense, Marítimo, União Leiria, Porto, and Everton.
He also played for the Portugal national team. He took part in big tournaments like Euro 2004, where Portugal finished second, and the 2006 World Cup.

Playing Career
Club Football Journey
Nuno Valente started his football journey in Lisbon, Portugal. He began his professional career on loan at Portimonense, a club in the second division. Later, he moved to Marítimo on another loan.
A famous coach named José Mourinho saw Nuno Valente's talent. In 1999, Mourinho brought him to União Leiria. Nuno Valente played there for three years and was a very important player for the team.
Joining FC Porto
In 2002, when José Mourinho became the coach of Porto, Nuno Valente was one of the first players he signed. Nuno Valente played very well for Porto. He helped them win the national championship and the UEFA Cup in 2003.
The next year, Nuno Valente helped Porto win the Portuguese league again. Even more amazingly, they won the Champions League! This is one of the biggest club competitions in football. Nuno Valente played in 11 games during their Champions League winning run.
Moving to Everton
After José Mourinho left Porto, Nuno Valente had some injuries. He didn't play as many games. In August 2005, he moved to Everton in England. José Mourinho had suggested him to Everton.
It took Nuno Valente a little time to get used to the fast pace of the Premier League. But he soon became a regular player for Everton. He played as the main left-back for a couple of seasons.
Nuno Valente signed new contracts with Everton in 2007 and 2008. However, he started to get less playing time. Other players like Leighton Baines and Joleon Lescott could also play in his position. He also had more injury problems.
In June 2009, Nuno Valente left Everton. He decided to retire from playing football after playing 60 games for the club over four seasons.
International Football
Nuno Valente became a full Portugal international player after the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was the first-choice left-back for Portugal during UEFA Euro 2004. This tournament was played in Portugal, and the team reached the final, finishing as runners-up.
He also played a key role in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Portugal finished fourth in that tournament. In a quarter-final match against England, there was a moment where it looked like the ball hit his hand. However, the referee did not give a penalty, and Portugal won the game in a penalty shootout.
After playing only one game in the qualifiers for Euro 2008, Nuno Valente decided to retire from international football in September 2008.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Nuno Valente became a scout for Everton in Portugal. A scout helps find new talented players. After a year, he went back to his old club, Sporting, and joined their coaching staff.
Nuno Valente started his own coaching career on October 11, 2017. He became the manager of C.D. Trofense, a team in the Portuguese third division. However, his time as manager was short. He was fired less than two months later after his team lost five out of six matches.
