Nutter Butter is a popular American sandwich cookie. It was first made in 1969. These cookies are known for their delicious peanut butter filling. They are currently owned by Mondelez International, through its Nabisco brand. Nutter Butter is thought to be the best-selling peanut butter sandwich cookie in America. People eat about a billion of them every year!

The Story of Nutter Butter Cookies

Nutter Butter cookies were first introduced by Nabisco in 1969. The exact details of how they were created are not fully known. The unique design of the cookie is often linked to William A. Turnier. However, Nabisco says they don't know for sure who came up with the look.

In 1973, Nutter Butter had a fun animated ad campaign. It featured a mascot called the Nutter Butter Man. He looked a bit like Willy Wonka.

Nutter Butter cookies became very popular with people who donate blood. They were often given as a snack after donating. In 1995, the American Red Cross stopped offering them in Georgia. This led to a big drop in blood donations. People really missed their Nutter Butters! The problem was solved the next year. Nabisco agreed to donate the cookies, and donations went back up.
