Nuxis is a small town, also called a comune, in the Sardinia region of Italy. It is located in the Province of South Sardinia, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) west of Cagliari. Nuxis is also about 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of Carbonia.
This town shares its borders with several other municipalities. These include Assemini, Narcao, Santadi, Siliqua, and Villaperuccio.
The Story of Nuxis
The area where Nuxis is located has a very long history. Archaeologists have found signs of an ancient settlement from the Nuragic period. This means people lived here long before the town we know today was founded.
The village of Nuxis itself started to grow around the year 1000 AD. It began as a small farm settlement. The presence of Benedictine monks in nearby towns like Narcao and Flumentepido helped Nuxis develop. These monks often supported farming and community growth.
Places to See
One of the most interesting places in Nuxis is the small church of Sant'Elia di Tattinu. This church is located about 250 meters (820 feet) south of the main village.
The church is quite small, less than 100 square meters (1,076 square feet) in size. It is a great example of Byzantine architecture in Sardinia. Byzantine architecture is an old style of building that was popular in the Eastern Roman Empire, known for its unique domes and decorations.
