Oak View is a small community in Ventura County, California, United States. It's located in a pretty valley along the Ventura River. Nearby, you'll find Lake Casitas and the town of Ojai. In 2010, about 4,066 people lived in Oak View. It's the third-largest community between Ojai and the city of Ventura. The United States Census Bureau calls Oak View a "census-designated place" (CDP) for counting purposes. This means it's a special area defined for statistics.

Why is it Called Oak View?
Oak View got its name in 1925. It was named this because of the many beautiful oak trees in the area. They made the place look like a lovely garden.
The Story of Oak View
Oak View started as a "bedroom community" in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This means it was mainly a place where people lived and slept. Many residents worked in the oil industry in nearby Ventura.
Oak View's Downtown Area
Oak View has a busy "downtown" area. It's one of only two towns in the Ojai Valley with a clear downtown. This area grew along Highway 33. You can find many useful businesses and services there. Community Efforts
Sometimes, people in Oak View have thought about becoming an official city. This would give them more control over local services. They even considered changing the name to "River City." However, this hasn't happened yet.

Oak View is located at 34°23′51″N 119°18′0″W / 34.39750°N 119.30000°W. The United States Census Bureau says the area covers about 2.0 square miles (5.08 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Schools in Oak View
Even though Oak View is in the Ojai Valley, its schools are part of the Ventura Unified School District. There is one school in Oak View called Arnaz Elementary. It's also known as Sunset Elementary.
The Oak View Park and Resource Center
There used to be another school, Oak View Elementary. It was closed by the school district. People in the community worked hard to save the property. They passed a local vote to buy the school from the County. Now, the old school property is called "The Oak View Park and Resource Center" (ovparc.org). This center helps manage the property and supports non-profit groups that serve the community.
Public Libraries
Oak View has access to the Ventura County Library system. This system has 14 locations. Three of these branches are in the Ojai Valley. They include the Oak View Library, the Ojai Library, and the Meiners Oaks Library.
