What is Odessa Lake?
Odessa Lake is a natural body of water. It covers an area of about 225.67 hectares. To give you an idea, that's like 225 football fields! The lake is located at an elevation of 123 meters above sea level. This means it's about as high as a 40-story building if you were to stack them up.
Where is Odessa Lake Located?
This lake is found in the eastern part of Ontario. It's close to the city of Kingston. Just northwest of the lake, you'll find a small community called Florida. The lake's location makes it a key feature in the local landscape.
How Does Water Flow In and Out of Odessa Lake?
Lakes often have water flowing into them and out of them. For Odessa Lake, the main water source is Millhaven Creek. This creek flows into the lake from the northeast side. Millhaven Creek also carries water away from the lake. It flows out from the southwest side. Eventually, all this water makes its way to Lake Ontario. This system is part of what scientists call a "drainage basin." A drainage basin is like a giant funnel. It collects all the rain and melted snow from an area. Then, it channels that water into a river or lake.
Why is Odessa Lake Important?
Odessa Lake plays a role in the local environment. It is a natural part of the Lake Ontario drainage system. This means it helps manage water flow in the region. Lakes like Odessa are also important for wildlife. They provide homes for many different plants and animals.
