Ognjen Vranješ (born on October 24, 1989) is a professional footballer from Bosnia. He plays as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football.
Ognjen started his football journey at Borac Banja Luka. He then moved to Red Star Belgrade in 2009. He also played for many other teams, including Krasnodar, AEK Athens, and Anderlecht. He has played in several different countries, showing his skills on various teams.
He also played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He made his first appearance for his country in 2010. He even played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which was a big moment for his nation.

Playing Football
Starting Out
Ognjen Vranješ began his football career in 2000. He joined the youth academy of his hometown club, Borac Banja Luka. He was just 17 years old when he played his first professional game in 2007. In August 2008, he scored his first goal, helping his team win against Orašje.
In December, he signed with the Serbian team Red Star Belgrade. He was later loaned to Napredak Kruševac in January 2010. In July of the same year, he was loaned to Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova.
Playing in Different Countries
In January 2011, Ognjen moved to Russia to play for Krasnodar. Later, in December 2012, he joined Spartak Vladikavkaz. He faced a challenge in May 2013 when he had a serious knee injury. This kept him from playing for at least six months.
After recovering, he moved to Turkey in January 2014 to play for Elazığspor. In February 2015, he switched to another Turkish team, Gaziantepspor. In January 2016, Ognjen joined Sporting Gijón in Spain. Later that year, he signed with Tom Tomsk in Russia.
Time with AEK Athens
In December, Ognjen moved to the Greek team AEK Athens. He signed a contract to play there until June 2019. In his very first game for the team on January 7, he was sent off the field. However, he scored his first goal for AEK Athens on February 5, helping them win.
On February 18, 2018, Ognjen scored his first career hat-trick. This means he scored three goals in one game. On April 23, he won his first trophy with the club. They became the league champions that season.
Moving to Anderlecht
In June, Ognjen moved to Anderlecht in Belgium. He played his first game for them on July 28. In that game, he accidentally scored an own goal against his own team.
In June 2019, he was loaned back to his old team, AEK Athens, for a season. In January 2021, he was loaned again, this time to Charleroi for the rest of that season.
Back to AEK Athens
In July, Ognjen Vranješ returned to AEK Athens once more. He signed a two-year deal with them. His first official game back was on July 29 in a European competition qualifier. Six weeks later, he played his first league game after returning. On October 3, he scored his first goal for AEK Athens since his comeback.
He reached a big milestone on January 16, 2022. He played his 100th match for AEK Athens.
Recent Teams
In July, Ognjen signed with Hatayspor. This team is also in Turkey. In September 2023, he moved to Čukarički. This team is located in Serbia.
Playing for His Country
Ognjen Vranješ was a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team for several years. This is a team for younger players.
In August 2010, he was called up to play for the senior national team for the first time. He made his debut on November 17 in a friendly game. This was against Slovakia.
In June 2014, Ognjen was chosen to be part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This was the first time his country had ever played in such a big competition. He played his first game in the tournament on June 25 against Iran. He stopped playing for the national team on February 13, 2020.
