Ognjen Vranješ (born 24 October 1989) is a professional footballer from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He plays as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football.
Vranješ began his football journey at Borac Banja Luka. He then moved to Red Star Belgrade in 2009. He also played for several other teams, including Krasnodar in Russia and AEK Athens in Greece. He also played for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
Ognjen Vranješ started playing football in the youth academy of his hometown club, Borac Banja Luka, in 2000. He was 17 years old when he played his first professional game in 2007. In August 2008, he scored his first goal, helping his team win against Orašje.
In December 2008, he joined the Serbian team Red Star Belgrade. He was later loaned to Napredak Kruševac in January 2010 and then to Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova in July of the same year.
Playing in Russia and Turkey
In January 2011, Vranješ moved to Russia to play for Krasnodar. Later, in December 2012, he joined Spartak Vladikavkaz.
After his time in Russia, he moved to Turkey. In January 2014, he joined the Turkish club Elazığspor. In February 2015, he switched to Gaziantepspor.
Moving to Spain and Back to Russia
In January 2016, Vranješ played for the Spanish team Sporting Gijón. In August of that year, he signed with Tom Tomsk in Russia.
Time with AEK Athens
In December 2016, Vranješ joined the Greek team AEK Athens. He signed a contract until June 2019. He scored his first goal for AEK Athens in February 2017 against Veria.
In February 2018, he scored his first career hat-trick in a game against Xanthi. He helped AEK Athens win the league championship on 23 April 2018, which was his first trophy with the club.
Playing for Anderlecht
In June 2018, Vranješ moved to the Belgian team Anderlecht. He played his first game for them in July 2018 against Kortrijk.
He was loaned back to his former team, AEK Athens, in June 2019 for a season. In January 2021, he was loaned to Charleroi for the rest of that season.
Returning to AEK Athens
In July 2021, Vranješ returned to AEK Athens with a two-year contract. He played his first game back in July 2021 in a UEFA Conference League qualifier against Velež. In October 2021, he scored his first goal for AEK Athens since his return in a win against Panetolikos.
He reached a milestone of 100 matches for AEK Athens in January 2022, playing against Panetolikos.
Recent Career
In July 2022, Vranješ signed with Hatayspor. In September 2023, he moved to Čukarički.
International Career
Ognjen Vranješ played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team for several years.
He received his first call-up to the senior national team in August 2010. He made his debut on 17 November 2010 in a friendly game against Slovakia.
In June 2014, Vranješ was part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This was the country's first time playing in a major football competition. He played his first game in the tournament on 25 June against Iran. He retired from international football in February 2020.
Personal Life
Ognjen Vranješ has an older brother named Stojan, who is also a professional footballer. Ognjen has a daughter named Adrijana with his ex-wife Danijela.
