Oisín Mac Diarmada (born in 1978) is a talented Irish fiddle player. He is well-known for his amazing skills in traditional Irish music. Oisín has won many awards and played with famous groups, sharing the joy of Irish music around the world.

About Oisín Mac Diarmada

Oisín Mac Diarmada was born in 1978 in County Clare, Ireland. He grew up in a place called Crusheen. He started playing the fiddle when he was very young. By the age of eight, he was already winning music competitions. In 1988, he became the All-Ireland Junior Champion at the Fleadh Cheoil for both fiddle solo and duet playing.

In 1989, Oisín's family moved to County Sligo. There, he went to a music school in Ballymote. When he was 14, he also began to study classical piano.

Music Achievements

Oisín continued to excel in music. In 1999, he won the top award, becoming the All Ireland Fiddle Champion at the Fleadh Cheoil. The next year, in 2000, he finished his studies at Trinity College, Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

In 2001, Oisín teamed up with his friends, including Seán Mc Elwain (who plays bouzouki and guitar) and Tristan Rosenstock (who plays bodhrán). Together, they formed a popular Irish traditional music group called '’Téada.'’

In 2008, Oisín joined the Innisfree Céilí Band with his brother Cormac and sister Máire. This band made history by becoming the first from their region to win the All-Ireland Senior Céilí Band Competition at Fleadh Cheoil.

Current Work

As of 2016, Oisín lived in Coolaney, County Sligo. Besides playing music, he is very involved in the Irish music scene. He is the director of SCT (Scrúdu Ceol Tíre), which are examinations for traditional Irish music at CCÉ. He also manages his own record label, Ceol Productions, and his music management company, Musical Ireland.
