Village History
Old Field became an official village in 1927. This means it gained the power to govern itself.
The Old Field Point Lighthouse
A very important landmark in Old Field is the Old Field Point Light. This lighthouse is on the northern tip of the village. It was first built in 1823 by the United States government. The lighthouse and the house next to it, called the Keeper's Cottage, are now used as the village's main office building.
Geography and Nature
Old Field covers a total area of about 2.2 square miles (5.7 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
Flax Pond Estuary
Along the northern shore of the village, you'll find Flax Pond. This is a special type of water body called a tidal estuary. It means it's a partly enclosed coastal area where fresh water from rivers mixes with salt water from the ocean.
