Oleg Anatolyevich Salenko (born October 25, 1969) is a famous former football player from Russia and Ukraine. He played as a forward, which means he was a goal-scorer!
He is most famous for scoring a record-breaking five goals in a single game during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. This amazing achievement helped him win the Golden Boot award, given to the top goal-scorer of the tournament.

Playing for Clubs
Oleg Salenko was born in Saint Petersburg, which was called Leningrad back then. His dad was Ukrainian and his mom was Russian.
He played for many different football clubs during his career, from 1986 to 2000. Some of the big teams he played for include Zenit Leningrad, Dynamo Kyiv, Valencia, and Rangers.
Sadly, Oleg had to stop playing professional football when he was 31 years old. This was because of injuries. He tried to come back and play for Pogoń Szczecin in 2000-2001, but he only played one game before retiring for good.
Playing for His Country
Oleg Salenko played for different national teams. First, he played for the Soviet Union's under-20 team. He was the top scorer in the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship with 5 goals.
Later, he played one game for the Ukraine national team. This was Ukraine's first official international game recognized by FIFA.
He then played eight games for the Russia national team. In these games, he scored six goals. All of these goals were scored during the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
His Amazing 1994 World Cup
Oleg Salenko made history at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He set a World Cup record by scoring five goals in one game! This happened on June 28, 1994, when Russia beat Cameroon 6-1.
He also scored a goal against Sweden in an earlier match. This brought his total to six goals for the tournament. He shared the Golden Boot award with Bulgarian player Hristo Stoichkov.
Even though Russia was knocked out in the first round, Oleg Salenko still won the Golden Boot. As of 2024, he is the only player ever to win this award when his team didn't make it past the group stage. He is also the only player to win the Golden Boot at both the U-20 World Cup and the main FIFA World Cup.
After Football: Beach Soccer
In 2003, Oleg Salenko became the manager of the Ukraine national beach soccer team. Beach soccer is a fun version of football played on sand!
His team played three games in a tournament in Portugal. They won one game against the USA (6-5) but lost the other two. After this tournament, he stopped being the manager. Later, he helped out with the Football Federation of Ukraine, but then he focused on his own business.
