Olga Nikolaevna Knyazeva (Russian: Ольга Николаевна Князева; born August 9, 1954 – died January 3, 2015) was a famous Soviet athlete. She was a top fencer, specializing in the foil weapon. Fencing is a sport where two opponents fight with swords, trying to touch each other.

Olga won a gold medal with her team at the 1976 Olympic Games. She also earned many medals at the World Championships. These included four gold medals and two silver medals between 1973 and 1978.

Early Life and Career

Olga Knyazeva started fencing in 1966. She quickly became very good at it. From 1972 to 1978, she was an important member of the Soviet national fencing team.

In 1975, Olga had an amazing year. She won the World Cup, which is a big competition for fencers. She also won the European Team Cup. That same year, her team won the world title. Because of her great achievements, the International Fencing Federation named her the best female fencer of the year.

Life After Fencing

After she stopped competing, Olga continued to be involved in fencing. She worked as a fencing coach in her hometown of Kazan. She also taught physical education at the Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute.

Family Life

After the 1976 Olympics, Olga Knyazeva married Rafael Dubov. He was a childhood friend and also a fencer. Rafael later became a fencing coach and a referee. Olga and Rafael had two children, a son named Aleksandr and a daughter named Nina. Both of their children also became fencers, following in their parents' footsteps.
