Olga Tass (born March 29, 1929 – died July 10, 2020) was a famous Hungarian gymnast. She competed in four different Olympic Games. Olga was born in Pécs, Hungary. Later in her life, she was known by her married name, Lemhényi.

Olga Tass: An Olympic Gymnast

Olga Tass started her gymnastics journey in 1941. She became a top athlete after World War II. She went on to compete in many major events.

Early Olympic Success

Olga's first big international competition was the 1948 Olympic Games in London. There, she helped the Hungarian team win a silver medal.

Four years later, she competed at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. The Hungarian team again won a silver medal. Olga also earned a bronze medal in the team portable apparatus event. This event involved gymnasts performing with hand-held equipment.

Gold and More Medals

Olga Tass had her most successful Olympics at the 1956 Games in Melbourne, Australia. She won a gold medal in the team portable apparatus. Her team also won a silver medal in the overall team competition. On top of that, Olga won an individual bronze medal on the vault.

She competed in her fourth and final Olympic Games in 1960. Competing in four Olympics was a big achievement. Olga held the record for the most Olympic appearances by a female gymnast for a long time. This record was later broken in 2008 by Oksana Chusovitina.

Coaching and Legacy

After her amazing gymnastics career, Olga Tass became a coach. She studied at the University of Physical Education in Hungary. She became a teacher in 1951. Later, she became a gymnastics coach in 1978 and a master coach in 1981.

Olga coached at a club called Újpesti TE. From 1961 to 1968, she even coached the French national team. This shows her dedication to the sport.

In 2021, Olga Tass was honored for her contributions to gymnastics. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for gymnasts.

Personal Life and Family

Olga Tass was married to Dezső Lemhényi. He was also a famous Hungarian athlete. Dezső was a water polo player. He also competed in the 1948 and 1952 Summer Olympics, just like Olga!

Olga Tass passed away on July 10, 2020, at the age of 91. She is buried in Farkasréti Cemetery in Budapest.
