Omar Josué Rudberg (born November 12, 1998) is a talented singer and actor from Venezuela and Sweden. He first became known as a member of the Swedish boy band FO&O in 2013. Later, in 2018, he started his own solo music career. Omar is most famous around the world for playing Simon Eriksson in the Netflix TV show Young Royals, which aired from 2021 to 2024.

Early Life

Omar Josué Rudberg was born as Omar Josué González on November 12, 1998, in Anaco, Venezuela. When he was six years old, he moved to Sweden with his mother, Wilnur. His mother married his Swedish stepfather, Thomas Rudberg, and Omar took his stepfather's last name.

Music and Acting Career

Starting with FO&O (2013–2017)

Omar Rudberg began his professional music journey in 2013. He joined a Swedish boy band called FO&O. The band performed together for four years. During that time, they won eight music awards and were nominated for 12 more. They also earned two Platinum and one Gold music awards for their sales. Their songs were streamed over 80 million times on Spotify. FO&O even performed at Melodifestivalen 2017, which is a big music contest in Sweden. They also opened concerts for famous artists like Justin Bieber and One Direction. In 2017, the band decided to take a break so each member could work on their own music.

Solo Music and First Acting Role (2018–2020)

In 2018, Omar started his solo music career. His first single was "Que Pasa" with Lamix, followed by "La Mesa" with Elias Hurtig. In 2019, he released "Om om och om igen" after performing it at Melodifestivalen 2019. This song became his first solo hit, reaching the top 20 in Sweden. He also released "På min telephone toda la noche."

In 2020, he released more songs like "Dum," "Jag e nån annan," and "LÄPPAR." In November 2020, it was announced that Omar would be in a new Netflix TV show called Young Royals. This was his very first acting role! He found out he got the part of Simon Eriksson on August 20, 2020. Omar has said that he knew people would love the show as soon as he read the script.

Young Royals and Global Fame (2021–2023)

2021

The first season of Young Royals came out on Netflix in July 2021. Omar quickly became famous around the world because of his role in the series. He also released an EP called "Omar Covers," which included songs his character Simon sings in the show. In 2021, Omar released the single "Alla ba ouff" and its Spanish version "Yo dije ouff." In September 2021, Netflix announced that Young Royals would have a second season. Omar was also featured on the cover of the Spanish magazine Xmag in November 2021.

2022

In April 2022, Omar worked with Benjamin Ingrosso on the song "La Incondicional (From Benjamin's)." In May, Omar released his first solo album, OMR. This album included songs like "Mi casa su casa" and "Moving Like That," which he performed at Melodifestivalen 2022. He also released "Nakna" with Victoria Nadine and "Todo de ti (All That She Wants)." The second season of Young Royals came out in November 2022. For the show, Omar released "Simon's Song," an original song he sang in the series.

In December 2022, Omar appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon with his Young Royals co-star Edvin Ryding. It was also announced that Young Royals would have a third and final season. Omar was also cast as Dante in his first movie, Karusell, which was released in October 2023.

2023

In January 2023, Omar released "Call Me by Your Name" with Claudia Neuser. In March, he released "I'm So Excited," which he performed live at the 2023 QX Gay Gala. He also released an EP called Mi Casa Su Casa (Remixes).

Omar released "She Fell in Love In the Summer" in April 2023. He was also named Best Dressed Man of the Year at the Elle-galan, a big fashion event in Sweden. In June, he released an acoustic version of "She Fell In Love In The Summer" and was featured on FDVM's single "All In My Head." He also released "Happier."

More singles followed in 2023, including "She Fell In Love In The Summer (Additional Versions)," "Happier (Remixes)," "Coast Side (Carousel Remix)," and "Off My Mind" with Jubël. In November 2023, Omar announced an upcoming solo concert. In December, he appeared on the Swedish TV show Så mycket bättre and performed three new songs: "Om du inte fanns (Don't Wait)," "Höj ett glas (Fanfar)," and "Min första (I Will Always Be Your Soldier)." These songs were released as the EP Så mycket bättre 2023 – Tolkningarna. Café magazine also named Omar Sweden's best-dressed man in 2023.

Recent Activities (2024–Present)

In January 2024, Omar released music videos for the songs from his Så mycket bättre EP. On February 17, 2024, he performed his first solo concert in Stockholm, Sweden, to a sold-out crowd. He sang songs from his past and a new song called "Red Light."

In March 2024, Omar was invited to the 96th Academy Awards (the Oscars) and walked the red carpet. Season 3 of Young Royals also came out on Netflix, along with a documentary about the show. Omar shared that he would be signing with a US record label, Elektra Records, in addition to his current label, TEN.

In May 2024, Omar released "Red Light," his first official international release. He also sang two new songs, "Talk" and "Bye Bye," at a concert. His music then started to be released under Atlantic Records for Nordic countries.

In June 2024, Omar performed at Gröna Lund amusement park and the School's Out event in Sweden. For Pride Month, he covered Madonna's song "Sorry. He also announced his first European-US tour starting in October 2024. On June 28, he released "Talk" and "Bye Bye" under Elektra Records, getting mentions in Rolling Stone and Teen Vogue.

In July 2024, Omar performed at Allsång på Skansen in Stockholm, singing "Red Light" and ABBA's "Mamma Mia." He was nominated for several awards at Rockbjörnen 2024, a music festival.

In August 2024, Omar was featured in Variety Magazine and WWD for being invited to Variety's Power of Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles. He also performed at festivals in Sweden.

In September 2024, Omar performed at the Heide Park Festival in Germany, his first international festival. He attended the Kristallen Gala in Stockholm and was named one of the best-dressed attendees. At the Rockbjörnen 2024 event, he won two awards: Grönan Live Act of the Year and Swedish Song of the Year for "Red Light." On September 20, he released "Sabotage" and announced his EP Every Night Fantasy would be released on October 18, 2024.

Omar released Every Night Fantasy on October 18, 2024. This was his fourth EP and his first under Atlantic Records. He then began his first European-US tour, performing sold-out shows in London, England, Paris, France, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Cologne, Germany. He also performed his first US concert in Brooklyn, New York.

In November 2024, Omar announced more tour dates for February 2025 across 11 European countries. He finished his Fall Tour 2024 with a final show in Los Angeles, California.

OMR Beauty

In November 2023, Omar Rudberg started his own beauty company called OMR Beauty. Its first product was a special unisex scent called Intro. In February 2024, people could buy Intro and meet Omar at a store in Stockholm, and many fans showed up. The scent is now sold online by Lyko.

In May 2024, Omar announced he worked with his Young Royals co-star Edvin Ryding to create a second unisex scent called Duo. It was available for a limited time. In June 2024, they officially launched Duo together.

In July 2024, OMR Beauty launched its third product, a cap with the company name. In October 2024, Omar launched Brunch, the third unisex scent and fourth product from OMR Beauty. Later, the company announced two more perfume oils, Lunch and Dinner, to complete a collection called Occasions. These were released in November 2024.

Personal Life

Omar Rudberg has shared his personal journey of self-discovery. In a social media post after Young Royals ended in March 2024, he spoke about how he felt different as a child and struggled to accept certain feelings. He shared that he used to try to ignore these feelings because he was afraid and wanted to be "normal." He expressed the importance of fighting for everyone's right to love and exist, and to be open about who they are.
