Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Omer Fedi was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. His father, Asher Fedi, is one of Israel's most famous and respected drummers. From a young age, Asher taught Omer how to play the drums.
When Omer was ten, he decided to switch to the guitar. He was inspired by the character Drake Parker from the TV show Drake & Josh, who was played by Drake Bell.
At age 16, Fedi and his father moved to Los Angeles to find more opportunities in music. Fedi went to Calabasas High School and joined the school's jazz group. He was so good at guitar that people came just to watch him play. One music expert said Fedi "could speak through the instrument." In 2018, he won the "Outstanding Performer" award at the Reno Jazz Festival, beating over 9,000 other musicians.
Career
Starting Out
After winning the award at the Reno Jazz Festival, Fedi was noticed by songwriter Sam Hook. Fedi started working with Hook every day after school, learning how to write songs. This led to him working with artists like Ella Mai. After high school, he began collaborating with the singer Yungblud.
Fedi met the rapper 24kGoldn at a party, and they started making music together a week later. In 2020, he also started performing with Machine Gun Kelly during online lockdown sessions.
First Big Hits
Fedi's career took off in 2020. He co-wrote and produced the song "City of Angels" for 24kGoldn. He also produced the song "Go!" by the Kid Laroi and Juice Wrld.
His biggest breakthrough came with the song "Mood" by 24kGoldn featuring Iann Dior. Fedi co-wrote the song and played guitar on it. "Mood" became a massive global hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and staying on the chart for 33 weeks.
That same year, Fedi worked on The Kid Laroi's mixtape ... Love, which was very successful. He also co-wrote and produced the hit song "Without You" from the deluxe version of the mixtape.
Working with Superstars
In 2020, Fedi was a key part of Machine Gun Kelly's album Tickets to My Downfall. He played guitar and bass and helped produce the album, which went to number one on the Billboard 200 album chart.
The next year, Fedi teamed up with Lil Nas X. He co-wrote and produced the song "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)," which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Fedi then served as the executive producer for Lil Nas X's entire album, Montero, helping to shape its overall sound.
