What is Oncol Park?
Oncol Park covers an area of about 7.54 km2 (3 sq mi). Most of this park is on a mountain called Cerro Oncol. This mountain is 715 m (2,346 ft) tall, making it the highest point in the Valdivian Coast Range. Even though it's a mountain, it's only 5 km (3 mi) from the coast!
A Special Forest
The park is part of a much larger area of 15 km2 (6 sq mi) of continuous Valdivian temperate rain forest. This type of forest is very unique. It's a cool, wet forest with lots of different kinds of trees and plants. It's similar to rainforests you might know, but it's found in a cooler climate.
Amazing Views
If you climb to the top of Cerro Oncol, you can see incredible sights. On a clear day, you might spot Llaima Volcano and Villarrica Volcano. You can even see Mount Tronador, which is a huge mountain on the border between Chile and Argentina. Imagine seeing three big mountains from one spot!
Who Owns the Park?
Oncol Park is owned by a company called Celulosa Arauco y Constitución. This company mainly produces wood pulp, which is used to make paper and other products. They help protect this important natural area.
