History
Onward was laid out in 1869. According to tradition, the local men frequented the local country store; going home meant they went "onward".

As of the census of 2010, there were 100 people, 39 households, and 28 families living in the town. The population density was 1,000.0 inhabitants per square mile (386.1/km2). There were 44 housing units at an average density of 440.0 per square mile (169.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.0% White and 2.0% Asian.
There were 39 households, of which 38.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were married couples living together, 23.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.2% were non-families. 23.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
