The Orange Line (Urdu: نارنجی راہ) is a modern train system in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is a type of rapid transit, which means it's a fast way to travel around a city.
When it started running in March 2019, the Orange Line became Pakistan's very first metro train line. It is the first of three train lines planned for the Lahore Metro system.
About the Orange Line
The Orange Line train route is about 27.1 km (16.8 mi) long. Most of the track, about 25.4 km (15.8 mi), is built high above the ground. A smaller part, about 1.72 km (1.1 mi), goes underground.
Stations and Passengers
The Orange Line has 26 stations where people can get on and off the train. Two of these stations are underground, while the other 24 are elevated. It is expected that about 250,000 passengers will use the Orange Line every day.
Who Paid for It?
Even though the Orange Line is sometimes linked to a big project called the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, it was actually paid for by the Government of Punjab. This means the local government in Punjab, Pakistan, funded the project.
