Orlando Peçanha de Carvalho (born 20 September 1935 in Niterói, Brazil – died 10 February 2010) was a very talented Brazilian football player. He was known as a strong and reliable defender. Orlando played for some of the biggest clubs in Brazil and Argentina. He also proudly represented the Brazilian national team. One of his greatest achievements was helping Brazil win the 1958 FIFA World Cup!

A Strong Start in Brazil

Orlando began his football journey at Vasco da Gama, a famous club in Brazil. He joined their team in 1953. He quickly became a key player for them. Orlando played as a central defender, which means he was in the middle of the defense. His job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. He was very good at tackling and leading his teammates.

Winning the World Cup

In 1958, Orlando was chosen to play for the Brazilian national team. This was a huge honor! He traveled with the team to Sweden for the 1958 FIFA World Cup. Brazil had many amazing players, including the legendary Pelé. Orlando played a very important role in the defense. He helped keep opponents from scoring. Brazil went on to win the World Cup that year. It was their first World Cup title ever! This made Orlando a world champion.



Adventures in Argentina

After his successful time at Vasco da Gama, Orlando moved to Argentina in 1961. He joined Boca Juniors, one of the biggest clubs in Argentina. Playing in a new country was a big challenge. But Orlando quickly became a fan favorite. He was known for his strong play and leadership. He helped Boca Juniors win the Argentine Primera División title several times. He played over 100 matches for Boca Juniors.

Back to Brazil and Santos

In 1965, Orlando returned to Brazil. He joined Santos FC, another super famous Brazilian club. At Santos, he played alongside Pelé again! This team was one of the best in the world at that time. They won many championships together. Orlando continued to show his great defensive skills. He helped Santos win important titles.

Later Career and Retirement

Orlando played for Santos until 1969. He then had a short return to his first club, Vasco da Gama, in 1970. After that, he retired from playing professional football. He had a long and successful career. He was known for his dedication and strong defending.

International Appearances

Orlando played for the Brazilian national team for many years. He represented his country in 30 matches. He was part of the team that won the 1958 World Cup. He was also selected for the 1966 FIFA World Cup squad. Even though Brazil didn't win in 1966, Orlando's presence showed his importance to the team.
