Oronto Bay is a beautiful part of Lake Superior, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world! It's like a big "arm" or inlet of the lake. This bay is found between two states: Wisconsin and Michigan.

It stretches from a place called Marble Point in Iron County, Wisconsin, all the way to Little Girls Point in Gogebic County, Michigan. A part of the Bad River Reservation is also located along Oronto Bay.

Where is Oronto Bay Located?

Oronto Bay is nestled in the northern parts of Wisconsin and Michigan. It's a key feature of the coastline along Lake Superior. The bay is a natural harbor, offering a sheltered area from the open waters of the big lake.

This area is known for its natural beauty. It has forests, cliffs, and clear waters. The bay is an important spot for local wildlife and people.

Rivers and Waterfalls

A very important river flows into Oronto Bay: the Montreal River. This river is special because it forms the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. Imagine a river marking the line between two states!

Before it reaches the bay, the Montreal River creates a spectacular sight called Superior Falls. These falls are where the river crashes down, making a powerful roaring sound. It's a dramatic entry into the calm waters of the bay.

Saxon Harbor

On the Wisconsin side of Oronto Bay, west of the Montreal River, you'll find Saxon Harbor. This harbor is a "harbor of refuge." This means it's a safe place for boats to go during storms or bad weather on Lake Superior.

Saxon Harbor is right next to Oronto Creek, which is another small waterway. It provides a safe haven for boats and is a popular spot for fishing and other water activities.
