Orrefors is a small town in southern Sweden. It is part of Nybro Municipality in Kalmar County. In 2010, about 719 people lived there.
Orrefors is most famous for its amazing glass factory. This factory shares the same name as the town. Orrefors is located in a region called Småland. This area is also known as the "Kingdom of Crystal" (Glasriket in Swedish). Many glass factories are found here. Other towns in this "Kingdom" include Emmaboda, Nybro, Uppvidinge, Växjö, and Lessebo. The Orrefors glass factory was one of the most important ones. It was even next to a special school called the National School of Glass.

History of Orrefors
Orrefors was started a long time ago, in 1726. A man named Lars Johan Silfversparre began an iron factory here. He owned land near a lake called Orranäs.
How Orrefors Got Its Name
A small community grew around the iron factory. This community became known as Orrefors. The name "Orrefors" comes from two words. "Orra" is from the lake Orranäs. "Fors" means "rapid" in Swedish. This refers to the fast-moving water where the iron factory was built.
The Famous Glassworks
The Orrefors Glassworks was founded in 1889. Soon after, they started making different kinds of glass. They made glass for science, medicine, and everyday use. The glass factory took over from the iron business, which was not making much money anymore.
Orrefors became very well known for its beautiful crystal glass and art glass. Sadly, the glass factory in Orrefors closed its doors in 2012.

Orrefors is located along a road called Road 31. This road connects the towns of Nybro and Vetlanda.
Getting Around Orrefors
The closest place to catch a train is in Nybro. Orrefors used to have its own train station. But it closed in 1985. Today, that old station is a special historical site. There is also a bus line that serves the town. If you need to fly, the closest airports are in Kalmar and Växjö.
Sports in Orrefors
The main sports area in Orrefors is called Orrevallen. This is where the local sports club, Orrefors IF, plays. Orrevallen has a natural grass field. It is 100 meters long and 63 meters wide. This size is perfect for a soccer game with 11 players on each team.
