The Rinns of Islay Lighthouse
A Guiding Light
Orsay is best known for its important lighthouse. This lighthouse is called the Rinns of Islay Lighthouse. It was built on the island in 1825. Lighthouses are tall towers with bright lights. They help guide ships safely through the water. They warn sailors about dangerous rocks or shallow areas.
Robert Stevenson's Design
The Rinns of Islay Lighthouse was designed by a famous engineer named Robert Stevenson. He was a very important person in lighthouse building. Robert Stevenson built many lighthouses around Scotland. His work made sea travel much safer for ships and sailors. The lighthouse on Orsay is still an active aid to navigation today. It helps ships find their way around the coast of Islay.
