Mir Osman Ali Khan, also known as Asaf Jah VII, was the very last ruler of Hyderabad. He was called the Nizam. After India became independent, people wanted him to be the Governor (or Rajpramukh) of Andhra Pradesh. He was once known as the richest person on Earth! This was because the Golconda mines in Hyderabad produced many of the world's diamonds.

Building a Better Hyderabad
Mir Osman Ali Khan helped build many important places in Hyderabad. These buildings are still used today. Some of them include the Osmania General Hospital, the Hyderabad High Court, and the Jubilee Hall.
He also built the Nizamia Observatory for studying stars. Other important places he built were the Nizamia Hospital and the Moazzam Jahi Market. The main library, now called the State Central Library, Hyderabad, was also built during his time.
Focus on Education
Mir Osman Ali Khan cared a lot about education. He spent a large part of his budget, about 11%, on schools. He made sure that primary education was free for poor children.
He also gave money to many schools and colleges. For example, he donated a lot of money to Banaras Hindu University and Aligarh Muslim University.
Founding Osmania University
In 1918, he started Osmania University. This was a very important step for education in India. Today, it is one of the biggest universities in the country. He also set up schools, colleges, and a special department for translating books.

Mir Osman Ali Khan was known for his generosity. He made several important donations.
Helping with the Mahabharata
In 1932, a research institute in Pune needed money. They wanted to collect and publish the ancient Hindu story, the Mahabharata. They also needed money for a guest house. The Nizam quickly agreed to help. He gave money every year for 11 years. He also gave a large sum for the guest house, which is now called the "Nizam guest house."
Donation During War
In 1965, during the Indo-China War, the 7th Nizam made a huge donation. He gave 5,000 kilograms of gold to the Indian government. This was a very significant help during the war.
