Osvaldo Cavandoli (born January 1, 1920 – died March 3, 2007) was a talented Italian cartoonist. He was also known by his nickname, Cava. His most famous creation is a series of short animated cartoons called La Linea, which means "The Line" in Italian.

Osvaldo Cavandoli was born in a town called Maderno sul Garda, in Italy. This town is right by the beautiful Lake Garda. When he was two years old, his family moved to Milan. He later became an honorary citizen of Milan, which is a special title given to people who have done great things for the city.

Starting His Career

From 1936 to 1940, Osvaldo Cavandoli worked as a designer for Alfa Romeo, a famous car company. He would draw plans and designs for their cars. In 1943, he became very interested in cartoons. He started working with another artist named Nino Pagot, who later created the cartoon character Calimero. By 1950, Cavandoli began working on his own. He directed and produced his own animated films.

The Story of La Linea

Osvaldo Cavandoli became famous around the world in 1969 because of his character La Linea. This cartoon character is very simple. It looks like it's drawn with just one white pencil stroke!

Cavandoli first showed his idea for La Linea to a TV show called Carosello. This was a popular Italian TV show that showed advertisements from 1957 to 1977. Massimo Lagostina, who owned a well-known brand of cooking pots and pans, chose La Linea to be in his advertisements. The commercials were a big hit! Because of this success, La Linea became its own animated TV series. It was shown in many countries across Europe.

Later Life and Passing

Osvaldo Cavandoli passed away in Milan, Italy, when he was 87 years old.
