Othella Harrington, born on January 31, 1974, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played high school basketball at Murrah High School. Then, he went to Georgetown University for college, where he played alongside future NBA star Allen Iverson. The Houston Rockets picked him 30th overall in the 1996 NBA draft.

Othella Harrington's Early Life in Basketball

Othella played basketball at Murrah High School, which was a very strong team. Many experts thought he was one of the best players in the country, right up there with Jason Kidd. In his final year of high school, Othella averaged almost 29 points and 25 rebounds per game. He also blocked nearly 6 shots each game.

He grabbed a total of 2,303 rebounds during his high school career. This is the second-highest number ever recorded in high school basketball history. Only Bruce Williams from Louisiana had more. Othella was named "Mr. Basketball" in Mississippi two years in a row. He was also chosen as a first-team All-American by Parade and USA Today magazines. In 1992, he was the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the McDonald's All American game. He set a game record with 21 rebounds and also scored 19 points.

Othella Harrington's College Career

After high school, Othella received a scholarship to play at Georgetown University. He followed in the footsteps of other famous "big men" like Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, and Alonzo Mourning. They all played for coach John Thompson at Georgetown.

In his first year, Othella was named the Big East Freshman of the Year. By his second year, he was already considered a 2nd Team All-American. When he finished college, Othella was ranked fifth in Georgetown's history for total points scored. He also had a great shooting percentage of 56%. He was fourth in total rebounds and fifth in blocked shots. He even became the school's all-time leader in offensive rebounds.

Othella Harrington's Professional Basketball Journey

Othella Harrington played three seasons with the Houston Rockets. In 1999, he was traded to the Vancouver Grizzlies as part of a big trade. During his first year with the Grizzlies, Othella had his best season. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He also started all 82 games of the 1999–2000 NBA season.

In 2001, he was traded again, this time to the New York Knicks. Later, in 2004, he was part of another trade that sent him to the Chicago Bulls. After playing for the Bulls, Othella signed with the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006. In 2009, he played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the NBA Development League. He then spent his final season playing basketball in Iran for Petrochimi Bandar Imam BC.

Othella Harrington's Coaching Career

After his playing career, Othella Harrington became a coach. In 2011, he was hired as an assistant coach at his old college, Georgetown.
