PJ's Coffee of New Orleans is a popular American chain of coffee shops. It all started with one small shop in the Carrollton neighborhood of New Orleans in September 1978. A woman named Phyllis Jordan founded it, and that's where the "PJ" in the name comes from!
PJ's Coffee used to be called "PJ's Coffee & Tea Co." It grew quickly around the Greater New Orleans Area with many company-owned stores. The first PJ's franchise, which is like a licensed store, opened in Mandeville, Louisiana, in 1989. More franchises soon followed in places like Hammond, Louisiana, and Picayune, Mississippi. Over time, PJ's expanded across the Southeast and to other parts of the United States, even reaching California.
In 2002, Phyllis Jordan sold the company to a firm called Raving Brands, based in Atlanta. However, in 2008, PJ's Coffee came back to New Orleans when a company called New Orleans Brew, LLC bought it. PJ's helps people who want to open their own coffee shops by offering special training. You can also find PJ's brand of coffee in some supermarkets.
PJ's Coffee is known for having many loyal customers. Some people even see it as a competitor to larger coffee chains like Starbucks, because they offer similar drinks and food. In 2004, PJ's announced that it wanted to compete with Starbucks all across the country.
In 2009, PJ's was chosen as the "preferred coffee" of the New Orleans Saints, a famous football team.
Recent Growth
PJ's New Orleans Coffee shared exciting news on July 14, 2020, about its growth. They approved at least 11 new franchise deals. These deals led to 15 new PJ's Coffee locations opening up. Nine of these new deals came from areas where PJ's was trying new ideas. These new locations included cities like Monahans (Texas), McKinney (Texas), Platte City (Missouri), Columbus (Georgia), Addison (Texas), Orlando (Florida), Columbia (South Carolina), Palmview (Texas), and Pensacola (Florida), as well as Dallas (Texas).
