Playing Football: Pablo Alfaro's Career on the Field
Early Days at Zaragoza
Pablo Alfaro was born in Zaragoza, Spain. He began his football journey with his hometown club, Real Zaragoza. He made his first appearance in La Liga on September 3, 1989. His team won that game 3–0 against Rayo Vallecano. In his first season, he played almost every league game. His team finished in ninth place that year.
Moving to Big Clubs
In the summer of 1992, Alfaro joined FC Barcelona, one of Spain's biggest clubs. He didn't play much during his only season there. After Barcelona, he played for Racing de Santander and Atlético Madrid. He was a key player for Racing Santander. However, at Atlético Madrid, he was often a backup player.
Time with Mérida and Sevilla
Alfaro moved to CP Mérida for the 1997–98 season. He played in almost all their matches. During this time, he received many yellow cards and two red cards. Mérida was relegated from the top league that season. Later, in 1999–2000, the team finished sixth in the Segunda División (second division). But they were moved down again because of money problems.
In 2000, Alfaro joined Sevilla FC, which was also in the second division. He helped the team get back to the top division in his first season. At Sevilla, he formed a strong defensive partnership with Javi Navarro. As younger players like Sergio Ramos joined the team, Alfaro became less of a main player. He left Sevilla in 2006 and returned to Racing Santander. He scored an important goal on May 7, 2006, helping Racing avoid being relegated from the top league.
Coaching Football: Pablo Alfaro's Managerial Journey
Starting as a Coach
Pablo Alfaro stopped playing football at the end of the 2006–07 season. He was almost 38 years old and had played in 600 official games. Two years later, he started his coaching career. His first team was Pontevedra CF in the Segunda División B (third division). He led them to a good fourth-place finish in the regular season. However, they didn't get promoted to a higher league.
Managing Different Teams
On June 17, 2010, Alfaro moved up a division to manage Recreativo de Huelva. This is Spain's oldest football club. But after only four months, he was fired. His team had only four draws in eight matches.
In June 2012, Alfaro became the coach for CD Leganés in the third division. He guided the team to the play-offs, where they tried to get promoted. They lost to Lleida Esportiu in the quarter-finals.
Alfaro returned to his home region of Aragon in June 2013. He took over SD Huesca, a team that had just moved down from the second division. After winning one match and drawing another in his first five games, he was let go on September 25.
