History of Padilla
Padilla has a long history. It was listed in Spanish records for many years. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Because of this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that Padilla barrio had 840 residents at that time.
