Dogri Cinema, also known as Western Pahari Cinema or Pahariwood, is the film industry that makes movies in Western Pahari languages, especially the Dogri language. Dogri is an important language listed in the Indian Constitution. It is mainly spoken in the Jammu Division area of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in India.

The Story of Dogri Cinema
The first film ever made in a Western Pahari language was a black and white movie called Gallan Hoyein Beetiyan. It was released in 1966. Many years later, in August 2010, the first color film in Dogri, Maa Ni Mildi, came out. It was directed by Roop Sagar and produced by Amit Choudhary.
In 1999, the first TV movie in Dogri, Chanchlo, was created. Shanker Bhan directed it, and B. R. Ishara wrote the story. This film was made for the state TV channel, Doordarshan (now DD KASHIR), and people really liked it.
Gallan Hoyian Beetiyan, the very first Dogri film by Kuldip Kumar, premiered in September 1966 at Shanker Theatre in Jammu. Later, in 2003, the Children's Film Society of India (CSFI) made a special film called Himmat. This docu-drama was about brave children and was shown at the IFFI that same year.
Another important film, ‘Lakeer’, was the first full-length Pahari movie from Jammu. It was released on January 14, 2011. Directed by Shiv Dutt Sharma, ‘Lakeer’ told the emotional story of a family separated during the 1947 partition of India.
Neelam Kumar Phull's Kuggi Maar Duaari was the third Dogri film, released on December 16, 2011. It was praised for helping to promote the Dogri language and culture. The fourth Dogri film, Reet, produced and directed by Pankaj Khajuria, came out on September 21, 2012.
Gul Gulshan Gulfam was a unique film released on December 14, 2012. It was the first movie made in two languages: Dogri and Kashmiri. Sarfraz Alvi directed it. Geetiyan, directed by Raahul Sharma, became a very popular Dogri film after its release on February 28, 2014.
The film Dille Ch Vasya Koi (2011), directed by Sanjeev Rattan, even won a special award called the National Film Award for Best Feature Film In Dogri.
More recently, Saanjh became the first feature film in the Western Pahari language from Himachal Pradesh to be shown in movie theaters. Ajay Saklani directed this film.

Award-Winning Dogri Films
The National Film Award for Best Feature Film In Dogri is a special honor given by the Indian government. So far, only one film has received this award: Dille Ch Vasya Koi (2011), directed by Sanjeev Rattan. This award was given at the 59th National Film Awards in 2011. The Dogri language is recognized in the Constitution of India.
