Babu Ram Ishara (born Roshan Lal Sharma; 7 September 1934 – 25 July 2012) was a well-known Indian film director and screenwriter. He was famous for his movies made in the 1970s. He directed 35 Bollywood films from 1964 to 1996. Some of his popular films include Chetana, Log Kya Kahenge, Milap, and Woh Phir Aayegi.

The Life of B. R. Ishara

Ishara was born in a place called Bharwain in the Una area of Himachal Pradesh, India. He left his home to try his luck in Bombay, which is a big city. There, he became a film director.

How Ishara Started His Film Career

His very first major film was Insaaf Ka Mandir. It starred actors like Tarun Bose and Aruna Irani. Later, he helped a cricketer named Salim Durrani join the film world with his movie Charitra. In this film, he also introduced Parveen Babi and the music composer Bappi Lahiri to audiences.

Ishara was known for giving chances to many new actors. Some of these new talents included Danny Dengzongpa, Rakesh Pandey, Vijay Arora, Jaya Bhaduri, Amitabh Bachchan, Reena Roy, Shatrughan Sinha, Raj Kiran, and Raza Murad. His film Woh Phir Ayegi, released in 1988 with Rajesh Khanna, was a big hit. Another film, Sautela Bhai, was praised by critics.

Ishara's Family Life

In 1984, B. R. Ishara married Rehana Sultan, who was a Bollywood actress.

Ishara passed away on 24 July 2012, in Mumbai. He was 77 years old.
