History of Palo Alto
This area was named after a large piece of land given to Matias Garcia in 1834. This land grant was called "Palo Alto."
It's important to know that this Palo Alto is not where the famous Battle of Palo Alto happened. That battle was the first major fight of the Mexican–American War. It took place on May 8, 1846. The actual battle site is about five miles from a city called Brownsville, Texas, which is much further south in Texas. The Mexican-American War was a conflict between the United States and Mexico over land.
