Panentheism facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Panentheism is a belief that says God is both in the universe and bigger than the universe. Think of it like this: the universe is a part of God, but God is also much more than just the universe.

This idea can be a bit tricky to understand. It means that God is everywhere in the world around us, but also goes beyond it. Some people find this concept confusing. It was first thought about by philosophers a very long time ago.

One famous philosopher who talked about this idea was Baruch Spinoza. He was a deep thinker who lived many centuries ago.

What is Panentheism?

Panentheism is a way of understanding how God relates to the world. It combines two ideas:

  • God is everywhere: This means God is present in all things.
  • God is more than everything: This means God is also separate and greater than the universe.

It's different from Pantheism, which believes God is the universe. Panentheism adds that God is also beyond the universe.

Who believes in Panentheism?

Many different religions and philosophical ideas have parts of panentheism. It's not just one religion. Some people in Christianity, Judaism, and other faiths have ideas that are similar to panentheism.

It's a way for people to think about how a divine being can be both close to us and also grand and mysterious.
