Papastratos (Greek: Παπαστράτος Ανώνυμη Βιομηχανική Εταιρεία Σιγαρέττων) is a big Greek company. It makes and sells cigarettes. Papastratos is the largest company of its kind in Greece.
The company started in 1930. It was founded by Evangelos Papastratos. Their first factory was in Piraeus, Greece.

Company History
Early Factories
Papastratos opened a second factory in 1933. This factory was located in Berlin, Germany. However, it had to close down in 1936. This happened because of pressure from the Nazi government at that time.
In 1937, the company opened a third factory. This new factory was in Cairo, Egypt. It operated for many years. But it eventually closed in 1955.
Growth and Success
In its best years, Papastratos was one of the biggest industrial companies in Greece. Many towns grew and became successful because of it. For example, Agrinio flourished from growing tobacco. These tobacco farms supplied the Papastratos factories.
Partnership and New Era
Papastratos began working with Philip Morris in 1975. Philip Morris is a very large international company. In 2003, Philip Morris bought Papastratos.
A new factory was opened in 2009. It is located in Aspropyrgos, Greece. Building this factory cost over €100 million. It can produce 20 billion cigarettes every year. Papastratos also owns a large tobacco storage building in Agrinio.
Cigarette Brands
Papastratos makes several well-known cigarette brands. These include Assos International and Old Navy.
