How to Play Papers, Please

The main part of Papers, Please is your job as a border inspector. You sit at a checkpoint and decide if people can come into Arstotzka. You can either allow them in or refuse their entry.

You have different tools to help you. You must check if their immigration papers are correct. This means looking for things like expired dates or fake documents. Your goal is to keep out unwanted people. This includes criminals, people with wrong papers, or even spies.

You need to make correct decisions quickly. Each mistake you make costs you money. For every wrong decision, 5 credits are taken from your daily earnings. Your pay at the end of the day depends on how many people you processed correctly. You use this money to pay for your officer's family, food, and heating. If you don't pay for these, something bad might happen to your family.

The game has many different ways it can end. There are 20 possible endings in total, depending on your choices.

Who Made the Game

Lucas Pope is the person who created Papers, Please. He used to work for a big game company called Naughty Dog. There, he helped make the famous Uncharted games. After that, he decided to become an independent game developer. This meant he could make games on his own.

The game was put on a platform called "Greenlight" on April 11, 2013. This allowed players to vote for games they wanted to see released. Papers, Please was approved on May 1, 2013.
