Parque San Martín is a city located in Merlo Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It was founded around 1948 by people who developed real estate. These developers bought land from the Etcheverry family.

Like many other places in Argentina, the city was named after General José de San Martín. He was a very important hero who helped Argentina gain its independence.

The provincial government of Buenos Aires officially made Parque San Martín a city. This happened on November 17, 1975. Francisco Tomeo was the Intendente (Mayor) of Merlo Partido at that time.

Parque San Martín shares its borders with several other cities. To the north and west, it borders Merlo. To the east, it borders Libertad. To the south, it borders Pontevedra and Mariano Acosta.

History of Parque San Martín

The land where Parque San Martín now stands was mostly open pasture (grassland for animals) until the 1950s. In the 17th and 18th centuries, this land was part of a large farm called an Jesuit Estancia. This farm belonged to a religious group called the Jesuits.

After the Jesuits were no longer in charge, the land became public land. This means it belonged to the government. The government then rented out the land to different private investors. By the mid-19th century, a man named John Wyatt Smith bought the land. He created one of the best farms in Buenos Aires.

Around the year 1900, the farm was sold to Roberto Cano. He built a beautiful mansion on his property. This building still stands today and is a well-known landmark in the neighborhood. It is known as Palacio Cano (Cano House). It is also called the Casco de Estancia de los Etcheverry, named after the last family who owned the farm.

Population and People
