The Parthian language was an ancient language spoken in a region called Parthia. This area is located in what is now northeastern Iran. It was the main language of the powerful Parthian Empire. This empire existed from about 248 BC to 224 AD.
Parthian belongs to a large family of languages known as Indo-European. This family includes many languages spoken across Europe and parts of Asia.
When the Sassanid Empire took over after the Parthians, the Parthian language slowly faded away. A new language called Middle Persian became the main language instead.
Even today, you can find many words in the Armenian language that originally came from Parthian. This shows how important the Parthian language was in the past.
