The Patchogue River flows into Patchogue Bay. This bay is a part of the larger Great South Bay. The river flows south towards these larger bodies of water.

As you follow the river south, you'll find Sandspit Park. This park is on the southeast side of the river. Right next to Sandspit Park is the Davis Park ferry terminal. This terminal has seating and parking right by the river. If you live in the Town of Brookhaven, parking is free!

For many years, the Patchogue River was a very important place for business. In the 1800s and 1900s, it was a busy port. Companies and clam dealers used the river for their work.

The Patchogue Riverfront Committee helps people enjoy the river. They host the Sea Fair River Festival. This festival welcomes everyone to see the beautiful river. It's a great way to learn about the sea life that lives there. The river is a popular spot for both tourists and local people.

The Fire Island Wilderness area is a special place. It is the only federally protected wilderness area in New York State. You can get there from the Watch Hill Ferry Terminal. This terminal is located on the Patchogue River. It's just a short walk from the Patchogue train station.

Patchogue River Boat Parade

Every year, there's a fun event called the Patchogue River Parade. It happens on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Boaters decorate their boats with lights and other cool things. Each year has a special theme.

You can watch the parade from Sandspit Park. The Watch Hill Ferry Terminal is also a great spot. Or you can find a good view anywhere along the river. It's a colorful and exciting show!

The Patchogue River Maritime Center has plans for the river's future. They want to make the river even better. This includes making the river deeper for boats. They also plan to build a visitor center for Fire Island National Seashore. There might even be a marine museum one day.
