Scraps in Movies and TV Shows
Scraps is a popular character, and her image was even used in old advertisements for student desks. She has appeared in several movies and TV shows over the years.
Early Film Appearances
When L. Frank Baum made a film version of The Patchwork Girl of Oz, he couldn't find an actress who could move like Scraps. So, a male French acrobat named Pierre Couderc played the part! Later, Doreen Tracey played Scraps on the Disneyland TV show.
Scraps in Modern Adaptations
Scraps also appeared in the movie Return to Oz. You can spot her in the background during Princess Ozma's special crowning ceremony.
In The Oz Kids cartoon, Lori Alan voiced Scraps. In this show, Scraps even had many little patchwork kids of her own! She also made a brief appearance in Walter Murch's Return to Oz movie.
Different Looks for Scraps
The Patchwork Girl was a main character in a TV pilot called Lost in Oz. In this version, her name was Serena, and it was hinted that she used to be human. After a difficult event, she was put back together by someone unknown. This version of Scraps looked very different from the books. She was very athletic and looked like a pale human, but if her clothes got damaged, you could see she was made of fabric underneath.
Scraps in Other Stories
Scraps stood with her friends in the comic book The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles. They worked together against a new Witch who was trying to cause trouble in Oz.
In the video game Emerald City Confidential, Scraps owns a general store. It's located right next to the main character Petra's office. She is also involved with Frogman's group.
More recently, Patchwork Girl is a helpful character in the animated series Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. She is voiced by Jessica DiCicco. Just like in the books, the Scarecrow thinks she is very beautiful.
