History of Patterson
The area where Patterson is now was first called Martin's Junction. This was because two important train lines, the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway and the Batesville and Brinkley Railroad, met at this spot.
Later, the town's name changed to Jelks. For a short time, another train line, the McCrory and Beedeville Southern Railway, ended here. This third railway arrived in 1911 but went out of business by 1914.
The town's name changed again to Patterson in 1919. Even though Patterson still has a train connection today, the original train junction is gone. The Batesville and Brinkley line was removed around the start of World War II.
