Patterson is a small city in Madison County, Iowa, United States. In 2020, about 176 people lived there. It is part of the larger Des Moines area.

History

Patterson was first planned out in 1872. The city got its name from Alexander Pattison. He was the original owner of the land where the town was built. However, his name was spelled wrong on the official map. The misspelled name, Patterson, stuck.

Geography

Patterson is located in Iowa, near the Middle River. It is a small city, covering an area of about 0.20 square miles (0.52 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
